Understanding Bit Error Rate
BER Definition
BER = Error Bits / Total Bits
BER expresses the probability that any given bit will be received incorrectly. It's affected by SNR, interference, and signal quality.
Error Correction
- FEC (Forward Error Correction): Adds redundancy to detect/correct errors
- ARQ (Automatic Repeat Request): Retransmits errored packets
- Interleaving: Spreads burst errors across time
Modern systems use these techniques to achieve very low effective BER even on noisy channels.
