RF Safety Standards

Power Density Formula

S = P * G / (4 * pi * R2)
S = power density (mW/cm2), P = power (mW), G = linear gain, R = distance (cm)

Power density decreases with the square of distance. Always calculate for the main beam direction where exposure is highest.

Compliance Requirements

  • FCC Part 1.1310: RF exposure evaluation required
  • OSHA: Workplace RF exposure limits
  • ICNIRP: International reference levels
  • IEEE C95.1: Safety standard for RF exposure
