Timing Advance Formulas
GSM Timing Advance
Distance = TA * 550 meters
TA range: 0-63, one bit period = 3.69 us

GSM TA compensates for propagation delay. Each TA unit represents approximately 550m of one-way distance.
LTE Timing Advance
Distance = (TA * 16 * Ts * c) / 2
Ts = 1/(15000 * 2048) = 32.55 ns
TA range: 0-1282 (NTA: 0-20512)

LTE uses finer timing resolution. NTA = TA * 16 provides granularity of approximately 78m per TA unit.
